Start-X Takeover FAQs

After remotely starting your vehicle, you must complete the takeover procedure before driving. If this procedure is not followed, the vehicle will shut down when you open the door or attempt to shift into gear. This is normal behavior, not a malfunction.

• What is the takeover procedure?
  This allows you to safely transition from remote start to driving, using your key. While the exact steps vary by vehicle, it typically involves:
  • Unlocking the vehicle
  • Entering with the key fob present
  • Pressing the brake and/or push-to-start button
  • Refer to your specific instruction guide for the exact steps for your vehicle.
• Why does my vehicle shut off when I get in?
  Some manufacturers—Acura, General Motors, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, and Toyota—do not support takeover. On these vehicles, the engine shuts off if a door is opened or if you try to drive after remote start. This is a factory security requirement to make sure the key is present and verified before the vehicle can be driven.
• Can this be changed or bypassed?
  Unfortunately, it cannot. This behavior is built into the vehicle’s factory system, and there are currently no workarounds to enable takeover on these platforms.
